For Rheinbahn AG, we developed RheinbahnTV, an HTML5 intranet app that uses SharePoint for content management. Employees manage news centrally, while terminal devices store content locally and play it back efficiently in kiosk mode. The WebService integration ensures efficient data processing and minimized network traffic.
Rheinbahn AG (known as Rheinische Bahngesellschaft AG until 2005) is a transport company founded in 1896 and headquartered in Düsseldorf. It belongs to the Rhein-Ruhr transport association (VRR) and operates almost all light rail, tram, and bus lines of local public transport in the cities of Düsseldorf and Meerbusch, as well as in large parts of the Mettmann district.

As part of the Rheinbahn HTML5 App | SharePoint Integration case, we configured an HTML5 application called “RheinbahnTV” for Rheinbahn AG, designed to run in depots and on the intranet. Rheinbahn employees can enter news items by category via a SharePoint site. These news items are played back periodically in a “kiosk window”; text, images, and videos can be integrated. The data in the database runs through a WebService and is processed by the client at runtime.
Terminal devices with TV screens that display the required information to Rheinbahn's customers load the videos in the background and save them to local hard drives to minimize unnecessary network traffic.
